Looking for a way to use your time and talents in the First U community?
We have a number of volunteer opportunities available. Keeping a church as large as our running is a big job.
Currently, we are looking for help in the following areas:
First Unitarian Kitchen Keepers
The Kitchen Keepers are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the kitchen and Fellowship Hall
While daily maintenance and cleaning of the facilities are the responsibility of the custodial staff, there is a need for volunteers to provide the extra TLC that keeps our shared spaces functional and welcoming. The Kitchen Keepers Team will report to the Building and Grounds Team. Kitchen Keepers will be responsible for a semi-annual extravaganza of cleaning, organizing, and inventory management. Documenting and presenting concerns and needs to the Leadership Council (LC) will also be important, along with proposals for purchases and changes in policy. It will be necessary to work cooperatively with our regular renters (Meals on Wheels, WOW Cookies) as well as Harry’s Kitchen Crew and other members who use the facilities. Kitchen Keepers may be requested to supervise dishwasher and convection oven usage for community events as their schedule allows.
This opportunity will enable you to: Get to know other members of the Congregation. Support the social activities that bind our community together (there can be no potlucks without a functioning kitchen!) Know the satisfaction of creating order out of chaos. Acquire some new skills, such as how to work the dishwasher, conventional oven, convection oven, coffee maker, and disposal. Contribute to our community’s efforts to be green and sustainable.
Skills Needed: Problem-solving, Organization, Negotiation and compromise, Reliability, Persistence
Training, assistance, and safety requirements:Kitchen Keepers will receive training on all the appliances in the kitchen by the Building and Grounds Team as well as the custodial staff and will assist other members in their proper use.
Service Term: 1 Church year. Activity and work schedules to be determined by the Kitchen Keepers in cooperation with Building and Grounds.
