Our motto at First Unitarian Church of Cleveland is “To Search and To Serve”.

Our adult and your religious exploration programs provide many opportunities to search. We maintain a strong presence in the local community through a number of service projects.

FDR Partners

We recently partnered with FDR Academy in the Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland.  FDR Academy is one of 14 Transformation Schools in Cleveland.

Our goal is to support the success of FDR students, through volunteer efforts such as tutoring, and some financial aid, including our contribution towards a fieldtrip bus last spring.  In September 2017, a Sunday collection was made to support FDR’s Uniform Fund, which provides uniforms to students unable to afford them.  Recently, volunteers from First U helped construct set pieces for the school’s production of The Jungle Book.

Multicultural Action Committee

The Multicultural Action Committee comprises members of First U and East View United Church of Christ who come together to further interracial understanding and relationships by working together to plan major community cultural, educational and service programs as well as social events that bring members of both congregations together.

IMPACT Afterschool Enrichment Program

Through IMPACT, members of our congregation join with other volunteers to provide after-school tutoring, enrichment, study, and social skills through mentoring relationships Tuesday through Thursday afternoons for selected students from the Shaker Middle School.

UU Ministry for Earth

The mission of this committee is to guide the congregation and individual members to integrate respect for the interdependent web of all Life (the UUA seventh principle) into worship, education, social justice, and advocacy in the community and sustainable policies and practices in everyday behavior. The committee successfully applied and worked for our congregation to have official Green Sanctuary status in the UUA.  We have also built a Permaculture Garden (which was dedicated in October 2011) which will have its own page soon on this site.
